This Senior Has Changed

Now in my 60s, I was thinking this morning of how I have changed over the years. When I was younger, I believe that I was pretty staunch in my ways, critical of myself and others, materialistic, and self-absorbed at times. Of course, I also worked hard and played hard and did the “best that I could.”

I feel like I have mellowed. Have you? Or is it just me?

This is me now.

  • I like to go to bed early and get up early
  • I like quiet rather than noisy
  • I appreciate the diversity and beauty of people, animals, plants, food (well basically everything)
  • I like things neat and in their place
  • I love water - to drink, bathe, rain, boat, swim
  • I like my days warm – 60 to 80 degrees and my evenings cool – but I love the seasons too
  • I love to read books, especially mystery novels
  • I think fondly of my life experiences – even ones that seemed difficult at the time
  • I appreciate different ideas and ideals – especially of the younger generations
  • I love to hike and explore new places
  • I love art and am amazed at human creativity
  • I love to help others and I appreciate getting help
  • I love to garden and watch the transformation of plants during the season
  • I love to be by myself but appreciate the company of others

I guess I have become more comfortable in my own skin as I have grown older. Am I unusual or have you gone through a similar transformation?

I feel very fortunate to be living during an era and in a country where I have the freedom and opportunity to experience inner peace and personal growth.
