National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification The National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification is a university-based, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting aging in place and independent living for persons of all ages and abilities. Headquartered at the Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center at University of Southern California, funded by The Archstone Foundation and The California Endowment, the Center:
  • provides training and education to develop and support skilled, educated and networked professionals who can respond to the increasing demand for home modification services; and
  • acts as an information clearinghouse on home modification to equip professionals and consumers with a comprehensive inventory of resources
The Center offers an Executive Certificate in Home Modification (Bruce Montgomery, Ph.D., President of Safety In Place, achieved the Certificate in 2011). Located at the University of Southern California Andrus Gerontology Center, it provides educational and research resources for remodelers/contractors, planners, personnel of organizations representing the elderly and people with disabilities, occupational and physical therapists, policymakers, and others interested in starting their own home modification business.

Dr. Bruce Montgomery is a licensed building contractor in Michigan and Florida. He is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist as designated by the National Association of Home Builders. He has also achieved an Executive Certificate in Home Modification from the University of Southern California. He has a wide ranging educational background, including a Master of Science degree in Entomology, with a Master of Science degree in Forestry and a Ph.D. in educational administration.
